Originally qualified as a Chartered Production Engineer, Peter was engaged for many years in the field of industrial engineering and business management before taking up a position in 1974 with the company then known as Hambro Life (who became Allied Dunbar, and who are now part of the Zurich Intermediary Group). Peter spent 10 years with this company before taking up an appointment as a partner in the Rugby-based practice, Perry Hawking's Associates.
In 1999 Peter joined forces with another practice in Rugby, namely O'Meara Johnson Financial Services Ltd. who were part of a national network named Berkeley Independent Advisors Ltd. When this network practice ceased to trade in March 2006, Peter decided to establish his own practice and became a member of the largest national network for Independent Financial Advisors, namely Interdependence Ltd., who are part of a holding company, Tenet Group.
